Open Architecture Affiliates

City of Durban

Seed funding for Open Architecture has generously been provided by the City Architects Ethekwini as part of funding to the Legacy programme associated with the SAIA hosted International Union of Architect’s UIA’s 25th world conference to be held in Durban in 2014.


The South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) is a voluntary association of affiliated and regional institutes established in 1996 and incorporates the previous national Institute of South African Architects and the Regional Institutes of Architects of the former Cape, Eastern Province, Border, KwaZulu-Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal. Corobrik has come on board as a business partner with the provision of a generous sponsorship for the Open Architecture programme over a period of two years. The sponsorship is to assist with the development of the course content, operational costs related to the web learning portal and appointment of lecturing staff required to deliver the programme.

PPC indicated their support of the OpenArchitecture programme by contributing to operational costs in 2014 and 2015.  

Interbuild Africa

In 2014, Interbuild Africa in collaboration with the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) decided to offer three achievement awards annually to architecture students registered in the OA/CPUT part time BTech: Architectural Technology (Applied Design) programme. The three Achievement Awards worth R10 000.00 are to be awarded annually to cover most of the tuition fees for the selected students’ second year of study.

The 2014 Interbuild Achievement Awards were presented to the students at the Interbuild Africa 2014 event which was held at the Expo Centre Nasrec in Johannesburg in 20-23 August 2014.
